This was the last week of working on the container city
project so we were crunching a little bit.
I am actually amazed at how far this level has come in just
a week, I was not very happy with the state of this level at the beginning of
the week, there was still a lot left to desire. Thankfully everyone pulled
together and by the end of the week we were just about ready to hand in.
A lot of finishing touches were added that changed the look
of the level drastically.
I managed to finish my balcony and window set, and hand it
off to Josh to populate the level with, then turn my attention to texturing the
floor.
I had made a basic dirty concrete texture earlier in the
project but we had always planned on the floor being littered with puddles.
So I looked into vertex painting, I found a really good tutorial that taught me the basics of vertex painting.
I feel like I finally have a decent understanding of how
useful material parameters really are everything about the material can be
tweaked on the fly with some fairly simple sliders even after it has been
painted! I left the actual painting of the floors to Max once I had set it up
in the final engine file.
Our level is getting pretty cluttered now, with lots of
secondary light sources from all the lit windows, and lanterns. So unavoidably
a lot of time was spent this week baking lighting. While infuriating having to
sit there for ages waiting, not being able to do anything else to the level, it
did provide some time to prepare the rest of the assets for hand in.
It’s actually something we almost overlooked, being so busy
with trying to get the level looking as good as possible, we almost forgot to
check what we would actually be handing in. Always read the brief!
