Beginning of this week we were given the character project.
It’s not quite what I expected but it should be fun none the less.
We actually have to design two characters that work together
as a dichotomous duo.
I wasn't actually aware of what one of those was until it
was explained to me. A good example would be mike and sully from Monsters Inc.
A real world example would be Laurel and Hardy the comedy
double act during the mid-1940s
I’m trying to keep the ideas loose at the moment and not get
tied down to anything too specific in terms of an idea too early. As the tutors
have mentioned a number of times before, “your first idea is rarely your best
idea”
I have a huge pinterest board feeding me all sorts of ideas,
almost too many! So I've started organising some of my favorite ideas into
mood boards.
We've had some really good lessons on idea generation from
Mike Kelly this week, so it should be a fairly quick process anyway.
I am leaning slightly towards my desert wanderer mood board
at the moment and it has lead me to find out about some really interesting nomadic
cultures. Indigenous tribes and their different ways of life are so
fascinating!
This series of photographs really shows what I am trying to
say, there is just so much depth and character in every photo, I think it was
Jolyon who said before that when you design something there is no need for it
to be more boring than real life, because real life has so much to offer.
